About this place
The moment the lacquered box is opened, the aroma of grilled eel drifts out, revealing thick, tender fillets that showcase Kawashimaya's specialty. The tare sauce strikes an even balance—neither overly sweet nor too sharp—pairing naturally with the slightly firm steamed rice. Beyond the carefully grilled deluxe unaju, the restaurant's straightforward, rich flavors come through in everyday lunchtime sets and nourishing options such as unadon and unatama-don, where eel is simmered with egg.
Although recognized as an eel specialty restaurant, it also offers a generous selection of sushi and seafood prepared with skilled craftsmanship. The popular omakase nigiri set includes 10 pieces alongside an additional 1 choice piece, while seafood rice bowls like kaisendon, chirashi, and various tuna bowls feature substantial cuts. Rice bowls and set meals come accompanied by a small side dish and miso soup, with after-meal coffee served as a welcome finishing touch.
Retaining the quiet nostalgia of the Showa era, the dining room offers a comfortable atmosphere whether dropping in alone for a meal or settling in for an evening drink. Ordering the Horoyoi Set, which pairs sushi with beer or 1 go of sake, or sipping a drink alongside dishes such as scallop isobeyaki or conger eel tempura, makes for an easygoing way to spend an evening.
